Fun Luxury

This was our first stay at a Kimpton property, and if Palomar DC is any indication, I would gladly stay at another. This is the kind of hotel where you just feel at home, both in your room and out, if your home were that luxurious and comfy. We had a Spa King room which gave us a super-sized bathroom with a large stall shower and a 2-seat jacuzzi tub which was great. There was also a little side room, presumably for getting in-room spa services. Overall room was funky/cool, comfy and clean. Only two complaints - leaks around shower door results in minor bathroom floor flood (typical of these setups) and bathroom lighting could be better (could use a higher-mounted light over the mirror). Hotel staff extremely courteous and engaging. Freebies in the lobby, too. -Philip Joress , from Warwick, United States - 6/30/2009
Great Stay

The accommodations were excellent as were all of the staff. The hotel is also located in a very nice part of town. Would recommend to anyone looking to stay in a great hotel, whether you have been to DC before or not. -Scott, from Mission Viejo, United States - 6/1/2009
Pleasant Surprise for DC
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
We've been to DC about a dozen times.
Always the same impersonal, stuffy, sometimes smelly rooms. These rooms were fun. We got an upgrade, because of a trivial inconvenience, no extra charge.
Interactions with the staff were always uplifting.
I'd come back. -Myron Pozniak , from Waunakee, United States - 5/11/2009
Huge Room

Had a fantastic time in DC with my wife. The hotel is close to just about everything in town. Just so happened there was an Embassy open house the same weekend and many of them were walking distance to the hotel. -Shane Angus , from Wilton Manors, United States - 5/10/2009

Excellent room. Great stay. The only slight negative is one morning, I could hear folks next door for a limited amount of time. -Andrew Delia , from New York, United States - 5/7/2009

Initial room was too small for 2 people.
Hotel kindly moved after 2 nights to a much better room (at no extra charge).
Assumed from website that pool was indoors - not so and closed at present!
Overall good service and excellent location as base for visiting DC on vacation. -Niall Sheridan , from Belfast, Northern Ireland - 5/6/2009

Although our room was large, it certainly wasn't up to luxury boutique hotel standards. Not only were the sheets not Frette, as advertised, they were poly/cotton.
The service was low to average. -a, from newburyport, United States - 5/5/2009

Highly Recommended!!
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
My wife and I highly recommend this hotel. We stayed for 4 nights in mid-April. The staff was attentive, extremely friendly, and energetic.
One example struck me as a general indicator of their service standards: There are polite doormen who open and hold the front doors for the guests. At one point, the doorman was helping someone into a taxi, briefly leaving the door unattended. A guest was heading through the door, and briefly struggled with his luggage. A nearby manager RAN to the door to assist. This crisp and enthusiastic service was typical of the attitudes we saw.
Before we got to Washington, we were slightly disappointed that the hotel was not in the Downtown area (which we knew when we made the reservations) - we thought that would put us out of the "action" of the city. However, it turns out that the hotel is located in a vibrant location, with lots of people on the streets at night, and right in the middle of interesting and original shops and restaurants. -Robert Mckean , from Newbury Park, United States - 4/22/2009
Excellent Value

I stayed at four Washington DC/Baltimore hotels during this trip. The Palomar was my overall favorite. I chose the Palomar for my weekend hotel and it fit the bill perfectly. I also liked its very close location to Dupont Circle and the Metro station. I would highly recommend this as a vacation hotel. -Gary Bosworth, from Los Angeles, United States - 4/3/2009
Great Value on Dupont Circle

Terrific bed, fun robes, great room service, compact but efficient room with fantastic closet space. Great staff. Lots of food/drink options nearby and very close to metro. Would stay again in a heartbeat. -Alex Singerman , from NY, United States - 4/3/2009
Horrible Weekend
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
We were trapped in the hotel on a weekend when most of the rooms had been reserved by a fraternity that was celebrating all night on Saturday night. There were curses shouted in the hallway at 2:30 a.m., along with screaming and laughing all night. The revelers for some reason felt compelled to knock on everyone's door at both 4 a.m. and 5 a.m. Because this was happening on every floor of the hotel, security was unable to control the problem. The hotel refunded our money for the night, but I'm not sure I would ever stay here again. -Cathy Powell , from Minneapolis, United States - 3/9/2009
Will Not Go Back

The only thing we like about this hotel was the free internet. The house keepers failed twice to bring me a shower cap, such a simple request! How can a 4-star hotel have no turn-down service. -Susan Pi , from Santa Ana, United States - 3/2/2009

Everything was immaculate with this hotel. The decor in the lobby and the room was very modern and chic. This was accentuated by the flat panel TV and the unique sliding door entrance to the bathroom. The room had plenty of space and was very clean. We also appreciated the happy hour that was hosted in the lobby. The hotel is located in a great area with plenty of options for dining and entertainment. I will make it a point to stay at this hotel again. -Harold Manning, from Adelphi, United States - 2/12/2009
Wonderful Hotel!

Our first time in Washington was made particularly special by the flawless service, wonderful location (near bookstores, cafes and restaurants) and exceptional room offered by the Palomar. One of the best hotel experiences (including the wine served by the fireplace in the lobby) I have had. -Penny, from Ottawa, Canada - 1/29/2009

We had a great stay. The room was amazing. The art around the entire hotel was wonderful. I would stay here again and would recommend to friends. I got the flu the last day of the vacation and the hotel was very accommodating with extending our check-out time, and altering our breakfast we ordered to the room. Our stay was wonderful. -Kelly, from Hartville, United States - 11/20/2008
Average Hotel
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
My friend and I stayed here for one night in a room with two queen size beds. We both found peanuts stuck to our bed throws and on the floor. I also found hair that did not belong to me on my pillow.
Check-out was inconvenient. Was unable to use the television due to technical problems or the telephone due to lack of customer service.
Besides this, my stay overall was average. The only plus is the L'Occitane amenities. -Julia, from Fort Lee, United States - 8/26/2008

Everything was great. The only comment I have is that the bathroom had a couple things that needed to be fixed; Shower head was loose and some molding was missing. -Pedro Perez, from Palo Alto, United States - 4/21/2008

I am writing to express my strong dissatisfaction with Hotel Palomar in Washington, DC. We were extremely disappointed with the service, room service, and manager. The wine reception was not up to standard. The shower would get so hot that you had to get out before you were burned. All and all the Hotel Palomar was not what we had been led to expect. -Pamela Persaud , from Gaithersburg, United States - 4/11/2008
