Overview
The Alex heralds a new generation of luxury accommodations in midtown Manhattan. Impeccable guestrooms & suites in a serene and welcoming environment await your arrival. With service beyond expectation, all that's left to ask is "What can we do for you?"
Serene limestone baths, rain showers, robes and towels, Frederic Fekkai bath amenities and a fully equipped fitness center are just a taste of the amenities offered at the Alex Hotel.

Alex Hotel

Unless the word "luxury" has taken on a new meaning, this hotel was most definitely not in that category. Ikea was obviously hired to decorate. Bathrooms were mini and quite uncomfortable. We were "upgraded" to a suite with a kitchenette which we had no use for and might be nice for self catering---not luxury. Closets were modular units with formica doors with some hideous photographed decorations on them. Windows were dirty and the room itself could have been cleaner--don't know if it could have been uglier. Staff was generally quite nice but turn down service at night was erratic. There were not enough lifts to handle the clients and the lobby was small and uninteresting. Room service cannot be used if breakfast is included in package although the breakfasts were generous and good in a not very pretty restaurant. Location is rather inconvenient. While this property might appeal to young people not too interested in comfort, it was certainly not our idea of a top property. -Sherry, from London, England - 8/28/2009
I Love This Hotel

The rooms are spacious (for NYC) and spotless. The toiletries are Frederic Fekkai, my favorite. The beds are super comfortable. We were upgraded to a studio suite...too bad we were only there 2 nights. The ultra modern kitchenette had a full size Sub Zero, microwave, cook top, dishwasher, etc. With the location only a few blocks from Grand Central and only 6 blocks from the theatre district, this place is hard to beat.

Great Stay

The front desk staff was very accommodating and we got upgraded to a corner room when requested. We received excellent cleaning service in our room. They even lined up our shoes in the closet. -Douglas Frigon , from Lafayette, United States - 7/27/2009

There is a great restaurant in the hotel, they had superb sushi and some exotic drinks that were very tasty indeed. The room is interesting to say the least and has all kinds of surprises tucked away for your enjoyment. We were upgraded to a suite at check in and the front desk was very helpful every time we needed assistance. -Andrew Allen , from peru, United States - 7/23/2009

Nice Hotel
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
The Alex is a nice hotel. Not enough lighting or counter space in the bathroom. When I received the bill they did not go over the charges with me, when I looked at the bill I was overcharged by $200.00 and the parking was also overpriced. -Kim Paliseno, from Dix Hills, United States - 6/26/2009
Good but Smelly
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
I liked the Alex and I thought the service was wonderful. The doorman was always friendly, front desk cordial and the people in the restaurant were nice too. Unfortunately our room was so stinky, we had to go and buy candles for it. It was room 804 and it was a two bed suite (which they kindly upgraded us to) and it smelled of old smoke and serious mold! I could taste it while in the room, especially getting out of a steamy shower it was at its worst! I had my bed linens and all towels changed every day so we could at least get a fresher smell at night but the stink in the room was nearly unbearable! -Noelle Heckscher , from Hamilton, Bermuda - 5/29/2009

After a little inconvenience due to not having a room ready for a possible early check in(not their fault, it's based on availability) the Alex broke out the red carpet treatment for our stay. After we got back from the baseball game, we checked in and were told we have been upgraded. They upgraded our double room to a 2-bedroom suite with separate kitchen and living area. Free bottle of Moet Rosé Champagne. Both bedrooms were HUGE, ample living area and plenty of room for us to enjoy our stay. Also they gave us free brunch at the restaurant attached to the hotel. Overall I give this place an A+. -Larry, from Arlington , United States - 5/4/2009
Worth the Money

The Alex, while not cheap, made our investment worthwhile. They upgraded our package to include an excellent breakfast voucher, and were very accommodating for early check-in and late check-out. The concierge was extremely helpful for restaurant reservations. The location is a bit far to walk to Times Square and shopping areas, but getting around Manhattan proved to be easy with subway, buses and lots of walking! The Alex was clean and we felt safe. I would recommend this hotel, if you can splurge... -Christian, from Quebec, Canada, Canada - 10/21/2008
My Trip to New York
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
I have been there before. In general a nice place but they have problems with plumbing, water all over the bathroom floor after taking shower or if there's a bathtub water is not going down for hours. I would like to stay there again, my daughter is a few blocks away, but they need to fix this issue! -Galina Kraft , from wilmette, United States - 10/6/2008

We were upgraded to a two bedroom suite since we had previously stayed at the Alex. The suite was wonderful, roomy and we loved having two bathrooms. The service was perfect each day. We ate downstairs at the restaurant. The service was good, a bit slow but very pleasant. Overall our stay was very enjoyable. -Helena Gorochow , from Wallingford, United States - 7/28/2008
