Visitors Beware

Checked in to this supposed 5 star property and was greeted by a receptionist eating cookies. The room I was given was small by any standard. When I noticed the swabs in the bathroom waste basket I went back to the front desk for another room. I was given a room right above the kitchen and restaurant. About 7pm, the noise became unbearable. The manager eventually gave me another room facing the street where I listen to road construction all night long. The ONLY breakfast offered was "buffet" style with cold danish and bagels that were too big for the toaster.
Although the staff was gracious (my room was eventually comped to be fair) this is by NO MEANS a superior property.
Visitors Beware!!!

It Was Great!

If you are going to Richmond, this is the place to stay. From arrival to departure, everything and everyone were great! Room was lovely...staff over accommodating, and there is even a complimentary shuttle that takes you to restaurants and historical sites and picks up! It was a memorable weekend away! -John Vanbourgondien, from Babylon, United States - 10/2/2009
Five ***** for Sure!!!

From the minute we pulled into the Jefferson Hotel till the time we departed, the service was extraordinary. My husband owns and runs his own business and is using our experience at the Jefferson as an example of top notch service. Also, after a drink at the bar of the restaurant, La Marie, we stayed for dinner instead of going out. We will be back, next time for pleasure. -James Kelly , from Middletown, United States - 8/17/2009

Superb service, pleasant and helpful staff. Beautiful setting with stained glass ceiling and windows in lobby area; Southern charm and hospitality; very comfortable bed.
Breakfast was fine but disappointing. -Arthur Hauptman, from Arlington, United States - 8/12/2009

A Step Back in Time
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
After a minor mishap, we were given another room and a generous credit. The staff at the front desk, concierge, and gift shop were the friendliest I have ever encountered at any hotel. The bar and grille as well as the late night room service was too overpriced, but the apple pie a la mode was divine. Would definitely return. This is a grand hotel with historical value that is complimented with a truly grand staff. Thank you. -George Chulkas , from Greenville , United States - 1/12/2009
My Stay At The Jefferson
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
Thoroughly enjoyed my stay at The Jefferson. Staff very nice and professional. One good thing I found is that they accept pets with no size restriction. There is an additional fee but that is a definite plus. I was upgraded to Junior Suite and thought it was wonderful! The Sunday Champagne Brunch with jazz is also a treat; there is a wonderful variety of good food with the classic ambiance of jazz music. -Nicole Peyton , from Richmond, United States - 11/12/2008
Excellent Service in An Opulent Hotel, Unfortunate
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
Wow, the service was top notch. We really, really appreciated that. Hotel was amazing downstairs, but we were a little surprised that the room was so very plain. We were missing a lamp, so you couldn't see in the hallway mirror. Something then went wrong with the bathroom lights, so we were in about 25 watts!? Didn't bother to call anybody, as we were only there for the one night. I believe this hotel should remain on Perfect Escapes because of the service, not necessarily because of location or state of the room (didn't use any amenities). -Steve Ray , from newport, United States - 11/5/2008

It was my wedding anniversary and since we were not able to go out of town because of the new baby, we did something local. It was a wonderful experience. I will stay there again. -Danah Dargon , from Richmond, United States - 9/12/2008
Jefferson Hotel in Richmond, Virginia

As we checked into this hotel, I felt like I had stepped back in time. The Jefferson, to me, represents a bygone era of elegance and a gentile society. Every part of the structure was stunning. The rooms are elegant, yet modern. I would definitely select this hotel again and have mentioned it to friends and relatives who have inquired about our trip. -Debbie Smith , from Oak Park, United States - 9/6/2008

Beautiful History!
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
Beautiful hotel! And such a long history! The people were wonderful too! Everyone went out of their way to be kind. Our stay was only one night, but everyone treated us like we were long time residents and frequent visitors! We had a couple minimal problems (TV remote, etc) that were fixed immediately….my husband had barely hung up the phone and the mechanic was at our door!
My one disappointment….I was surprised that the bed wasn’t more comfortable. Queen sized beds? And the sheets were “scratchy”, certainly not luxury sheets…there are 1000+ count sheets available for very little money comparatively ….I would think that would be an absolute in a 5-star hotel!
Would I stay again…not sure…it was a lot of money for one night…

A Significant Experience
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
The Jefferson Hotel is a significant architectural structure whose interior is an experience in elegance. The elegance experience is juxtaposed with a knowledgeable and friendly staff. I love afternoon tea and did have tea at the Jefferson. To my surprise the sandwiches were somewhat dry and a "room service" fee and gratuity were included. I suggest that you include the "room fee" in the cost of the tea and that you allow the tea-goer to determine the tip. I am also wondering how a hotel can be five-stars without a spa in the hotel. I certainly did enjoy my stay and look forward to my next visit. -Sherry Prather , from Austin, United States - 3/24/2008
Excellent Get-Away for That Special Occasion
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
Elegant yet very friendly and cooperative. Went out of their way to make our one-night stay special. The afternoon tea was lovely with a special touch for our anniversary. All services were excellent and timely from arrival to departure. Car service to and from the Cathedral was also timely and convenient for us. Restaurants ... excellent. -James Cannon , from Charlottesville, United States - 2/25/2008
Worth It?
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
If you just want a place to stay, it is not worth it. You must take advantage of the amenities. The restaurant's food was some of the best I have had, but you must pay for it. Three courses and one desert with tip was almost $200. -Paul Barraco , from VIRGINIA BEACH, United States - 1/31/2008
Historic Tranquillity
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
This was our second stay at the Jefferson. When you arrive, it is hard to believe you are in a pretty large town, because the hotel is in a very quiet area downtown. It is an amazing hotel with beautifully historic architecture. We love the bar which is a bustling place around 5:00pm. Both stays have been during the Christmas season, which is probably the prettiest time to go. They make a lifesize gingerbread house in the lobby which is truly amazing. The rooms are beautifully furnished and the beds are wonderfully comfortable. The bathrooms are quite large for an old hotel and well equipped. The bed is turned down at night with a nice robe nearby. We love breakfast on the enclosed porch. Everything about the Jefferson, we love. There is a small museum in the downstairs lobby which is very interesting. -Sharon Andrew , from greensboro, United States - 12/26/2007

Great Stay - Minor Glitches Taken Care of Quickly
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
We had a great stay at the Jefferson over Thanksgiving weekend 2007. There were two minor glitches - heat didn't work in one room and our key card wasn't coded correctly, but both were taken care of in literally minutes. The hotel is beautiful and the rooms (standard) are HUGE for the $195 we paid per room/per night. -Anne, from N Bethesda, United States - 11/28/2007
Room Accomodations
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
Our room was extremely hot and we could not adjust the a/c so the temperature in the room was lowered. We called the front desk and maintenance came and made some adjustments and said it would be cooler after a while. The room did not get any cooler during the evening and it was uncomfortable sleeping. I have stayed at the Jefferson several times previously and never encountered any problems. -Sherry Miller , from Dumfries, United States - 11/19/2007
